Cheríe Sweetbottom
These are from the second Dr. Sketchy's DC, but last to be held at the Red Palace [RIP] featuring the lovely & talented Cheríe Sweetbottom as our model.
Here are some 10 minutes sketches
And a left-handed sketch that won me a cool pop-up book.

KiKi Allure
I don't have too much to share from the Junkyard Dolls' sessions at Dr. Sketchy's Baltimore, despite their being extremely talented and really fun figure models.
Thankfully the next session I went to was a little more productive, featuring KiKi Allure.
This one even won me a prize* during their blind contour drawing contest.

Dr. Sketchy's DC with Eyrie Twylite
Dr. Sketchy's made its triumphant return to Washington DC last week at the Red Palace, hosted by Reverend Valentine with Eyrie Twylite posing for the group. It was a lot of fun, and it is pretty nice to have a Dr. Sketchy's in town & within reasonable driving distance. Not that I am going to forgo the Baltimore sessions- heaven forbid.
Add to all of that, Crunkcakes was there with an amazing selection of their specialty cupcakes. Dear god I really wanted to win that half dozen...

Nicolette Le Faye
I attended the 4 year anniversary session of Dr. Sketchy's Baltimore branch, with Nicolette Le Faye performing and posing for the crowd. I'm slowly becoming accustomed to finishing a drawing in 20 minutes. Though I'd rather have 60...

Dr. Sketchy's Baltimore

I checked out a Dr. Sketchy's session at The Windup Space in Baltimore this week. (on a school night *gasp*!)
I didn't accomplish much worth showing as the vast majority of the time was spend on very short sketches, but I managed to produce a couple of decent, if unfinished drawings. Still, it was fun drawing burlesque model Lauren Marleaux as she channeled her best Joan Holloway before sharing her more usual garb. (and let me add it was very humbling seeing the drawings by all the extremely talented artists who also showed up for the event.)

Drawing Marathon
![]() |
Alexis, our model from 5:00 pm-7:00pm. |
VisArts in Rockville MD had its 3rd annual "Draw 'til you drop" marathon this weekend. Organized by the talented Ricardo Pontes, (see his blog post for more info on how it went- theres a picture of me in there somewhere) the marathon was a 12 hour life drawing session where we were able to draw 7 different models through out the day. It was a lot of fun, and went by in a flash. Can't wait for the next one. There are a couple more sketches at my Flickr account.

NYSSSA 2011 Figure Studies

Squeezed in a figure drawing or two over the summer. I had another I liked, but sadly I forgot it in classroom when I left for home.

All Star Rollergirls
Last weekend was Sketchcrawl #29.. which I will address again later... But that later that same day was a Dr. Sketchy's figure session with the DC Roller-girls All-Star team. Now, I don' t know whats wrong with this town, but I turn out to be the only person to show up. How there weren't dozens of people there, I'll never understand. And while I would have totally understood the team calling it a night and getting home early, they actually stuck around and let me draw for a few hours. So just know that they are indeed as awesome, hilarious and nice (& frankly bad-ass) as you would hope.
I should also add that I wish some figure-class models I've seen had posed half as well as the roller-girls did. They consistently modeled fantastic poses, many of which surely made them sore the next morning.
Pictured above are dr. SKabs (standing), Gun'Her Down (kneeling), and Small Frye (reclining).

Wham Bam Pam!

Burlesque & Cosplay performer "Wham Bam Pam!" posed for the most recent Dr. Sketchy's figure drawing session at The Soundry, and put on a fun show. Not only treating us to some great costumes and poses, but she threw in a performance in the middle too. It was a lot of fun.

Demoncats & Dr. Sketchy

A fellow Sketchcrawler let me know that Dr. Sketchy's had started up in DC earlier this year. Of course I only found out about this in July when I was out of town.
So I made it to my first session this week at The Soundry in VA and they had the Demoncats from the DC Rollergirls posing for us. And they put on some really good at poses, better than models from some figure studies classes I've had & taught.

I can't wait to see the girls in the rink!
